Donald Sutherland Has Died at The Age of 88

Donald Sutherland, a beloved actor who starred in countless films from M*A*S*H to the Hunger Games has died after a long illness.

Over his 60-year career, Sutherland appeared or starred in 200 film and television credits. His big break came when he played Vernon Pinkley in the 1967 World War II drama The Dirty Dozen opposite Lee Marvin. Sutherland would appear in two more war movies, starring in Robert Altman’s 1970 Korean War film M*A*S*H as Capt. Benjamin Franklin “Hawkeye” Pierce, followed by 1970’s Kelly’s Heroes, as Oddball alongside Clint Eastwood and Telly Savalas.

In 1978 Sutherland would appear in a heist comedy The Great Train Robbery with Sean Connery and the John Landis directed film Animal House as an English lit Professor Dave Jennings teaching at Faber College who liked to smoke pot.

During the 1980’s, 90’s and early 2000’s Sutherland would appear in such movies as, Ordinary People, The Trouble with Spies, JFK, Backdraft, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Outbreak, A Time To Kill, Virus and Space Cowboys to name a few.

In 2012, Sutherland would take on the role of President Coriolanus Snow the chief antagonist in The Hunger Games, he would also star in the sequels Catching Fire (2013) and Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2.

Donald Sutherland died Thursday in Miami at the age of 88.
