Ryan Reynolds dream of getting Hugh Jackman to be a part of the Deadpool franchise has been answered like a prayer with the release of the newest trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine.

When Logan was released to theaters in 2017, where the character of Logan/Wolverine died, Hugh Jackman said it would be his last time portraying the character after a total of nine appearances including cameos. When Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters in July this will mark Jackman’s tenth appearance as the titular character.

So, what exactly brought Jackman out of retirement as it were to return to the character yet again? In 2023 Ryan Reynolds said this version of Wolverine pitched to Jackman was “Enough of a divergence from the character that he knows and the character that he’s left behind, that it gives him something completely new to play and something that he’s really excited to do.” Jackman was just 32 when he took on the role of Wolverine in 2000. He was initially criticized for being too tall to play the role, however, he has since gone on to become synonymous with the role.

The R-rated superhero film sees Deadpool arrive in the MCU after he’s kidnapped by the Time Variance Authority and finding himself in the same world as the Avengers. Shawn Levy directs the film, that also stars Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni and Matthew Macfadyen.

Disney bought 21st Century Fox studios in 2019 that returned the rights of the X-Men and Fantastic Four to Marvel. Deadpool & Wolverine will be the first movie for Deadpool set in the MCU and comes nearly six years after the release of “Deadpool 2.”
