Four teams were given top seeds in one of the craziest college basketball seasons in recent history. Louisville is the No. 1 overall seed, after winning the Big East. Gonzaga, the No. 1 team in the polls, is the top team in the West. Indiana is the No. 1 seed in the East and Kansas is the No. 1 seed in the South.

Conference with most bids: Big East: 8 teams: Louisville (No. 1 seed), Georgetown (2), Marquette (3), Syracuse (4), Notre Dame (7), Pittsburgh (8), Villanova (9), Cincinnati (10)
Highest-seeded at-large teams (meaning last teams in): Boise State & La Salle (playing one another in play-in game for 13 seed)
Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger became the first coach in history to lead five different programs to the tournament (Oklahoma, UNLV, Illinois, Florida, Kansas State).
