In 2025, we mark the 20th anniversary of Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, the beloved animated comedy produced by DreamWorks Animation and Aardman Animations.
Released on October 7, 2005 (U.S.), this feature-length adventure brought Wallace and his loyal dog Gromit to the big screen in their most ambitious escapade yet.
Directed by Nick Park and Steve Box, the film is a delightful parody of classic monster movies. Audiences joined Wallace, the eccentric inventor, and Gromit, his clever canine companion, as they tackled a town overrun by mischievous rabbits just before the annual Giant Vegetable competition. Their pest control business takes a wild turn when a mysterious giant rabbit begins devouring the prized crops, leading to hilarious and heartwarming moments.
Featuring the voices of Peter Sallis, Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, and Peter Kay, the film charmed viewers worldwide. Production began in September 2003, with DreamWorks helping shape the film for international audiences—including changing its original subtitle, The Great Vegetable Plot, to the now-iconic The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
Though its U.S. box office performance was modest, the film found tremendous success internationally and earned widespread critical acclaim. Its legacy includes winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and the BAFTA Award for Best British Film.
Twenty years later, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit remains a cherished classic, celebrated for its wit, creativity, unforgettable characters and two decades of laughter, adventure, vegetables and rabbits!
