“Stand By Me,” the iconic coming-of-age film, marks its 40th anniversary with a special one-week return to theaters beginning March 27th.
Adapted from Stephen King’s novella “The Body,” the movie was directed by the late Rob Reiner and features Will Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O’Connell, and Kiefer Sutherland. The story unfolds in Castle Rock, Oregon, where 12-year-old Gordie LaChance (Wheaton) sets out with his friends Chris, Teddy, and Vern to find a dead body in the woods, hoping their discovery will make them local legends. Their journey challenges each boy, as they face fears, loss, and the realities of growing up.
Released on August 22, 1986, “Stand By Me” grossed over $52 million against a budget of $8 million.
