William Shatner on J.J. Abrams

William Shatner, the original Captain Kirk, in a radio interview gave director J.J. Abrams high praise as a director as he begins to take on the other sci-fi franchise.

“J.J. is a terrific director, and he gives you a great ride. He knows how to make the movie large with the special effects and everything. And that’s going to be wonderful.” Shatner said regarding Abrams taking on Star Wars Epsiode VII

Shatner continued by also giving him credit for his work on Star Trek.
“It’s going to be wonderful for both franchises. He certainly has enlivened Star Trek. I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s going to do because he’s going to do something different, that’s for sure. There are very few people who can make those kinds of movies, to have the sensibility. He’s got a lot of wonderful people around him. He’ll make a fabulous movie.”

Abrams, while he won’t be directing the next Star Trek movie will still have a hand in it as a producer. Paramount hopes to have another Star Trek film in theaters by 2016, just in time for Star Trek to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Abrams begins filming on Star Wars Episode VII in early 2014 with a release sometime in 2015.
