Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel’s space adventure wasn’t a sure bet before hitting theaters. With a cast of characters that no one would have heard of outside of Marvel comic enthusiasts has now surpassed “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” at the current domestic box office champion.
Variety, box office experts think “Guardians of the Galaxy” will move over the $300 million threshold domestically, becoming the first movie of 2014 to accomplish such.
If you’re a Guardians of the Galaxy fan don’t get your hopes up of it staying at the top by the time 2014 ends. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 comes out in November and if it does anything close to what 2013’s “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” did last year, Guardians won’t stand a chance.
Even the popularity of such movies as Iron Man 3, Frozen and Man of Steel weren’t strong enough to keep “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” from becoming the top grossing movie in 2013.
The box office returns for 2014 have been down overall, but what was lost in quantity was gained in quality.
