Masters of the Universe (2026) is the second live-action film adaptation after the 1987 film of the same name based on the media franchise by Mattel.

Masters of the Universe is best known through Filmation’s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series. Debuting in the fall of 1983, the animated series ran for 130 episodes over two seasons, concluding in November of 1985.

The original live action Masters of the Universe film released to theaters in 1987, starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella earned just $17 million worldwide on a budget of $22 million and was considered a critical and commercial flop. Many now regard the movie as a cult classic.

The 2026 film finds Prince Adam on Earth having been separated for 15 years, the Sword of Power leads Prince Adam back to Eternia, where he discovers his home shattered under the rule of Skeletor. To save his family and his world, Adam must join forces with his closest allies, Teela and Duncan/Man-At-Arms, and embrace his true destiny as He-Man — the most powerful man in the universe.
