Rob Zombie’s ‘The Munsters’

Rob Zombie and Universal have released the first teaser trailer for The Munsters movie, Zombie’s adaptation of the 1960s television sitcom.

The original Munsters television series ran for two seasons on CBS from September of 1964 to May of 1966 and starred Fred Gwynne as Herman Munster, Yvonne De Carlo as wife Lily and Al Lewis as Lily’s father, Grandpa. The Munsters were portrayed as a Transylvanian-American family living at 1313 Mockingbird Lane in the fictional city of Mockingbird Heights. The Munster were an odd-looking family with strange tastes but considered themselves to be just an average American family.

Very little is known about the plot of Rob Zombie’s The Munsters movie. It was announced in March of 2021 that Zombie was working on a new film adaptation and in October of 2021 the movie began filming. Rob Zombie has stated that the character designs would be faithful to the source material, and that an exact replica of the Mockingbird Lane Mansion would be recreated for the film. The film will also be rated PG, that may come as a surprise being a Rob Zombie movie.

So, who’s taking over the iconic roles of the Munsters? Jeff Daniel Phillips stars as Herman Munster with Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily and Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa. Speculation seems to point that Zombie’s Munsters movie might be a prequel of sorts as there has been no announcements for the roles of Marilyn or Eddie. It’s also rumored that Pat Priest and Butch Patrick who originally portrayed Marilyn and Eddie will be making cameos.

The Munsters will be released sometime in 2022 (date to be announced) by Universal Pictures theatrically while simultaneously being streamed on the streaming service Peacock.
