Not one but two “Independence Day” sequels are in the works according to Director Roland Emmerich.
Emmerich spoke a bit about the upcoming sequels, “ID Forever Part I” and “ID Forever Part II.” while doing press for “White House Down”.
Although it has been nearly seventeen years since “Independence Day” the long period for the sequels has been built into both stories that will take place close to two decades after the events of the first movie. By then the aliens have received word to their home planet that their advance forces were defeated and another group have left, hoping to conquer Earth.
Emmerich didn’t say if some of the same characters from the first movie would be portrayed by some of the same stars.
Dean Devlin, who co-wrote Independence Day has finished the screenplays for the two pictures, but the writer of “White House Down,” has been brought in for a rewrite.
I guess we get to see E.T. get his ass kicked once again.
