Zachary Quinto at the 2013 Galway Film Fleadh made comments, if true could see a third Star Trek movie under the direction of J.J. Abrams a lot sooner than anyone may of thought.
When Quinto was asked about the role of Spock in the J.J. Abrams Star Trek films, part of Quinto’s answer was this….
“Star Trek 3 should be filming, I suppose, next year. It’s going to be made a lot quicker than the last one. That’s the plan, although nothing is confirmed yet.”
Quinto also said later that Abrams was planning on returning to direct a third installment.
Abrams, in a different interview, admitted that he is not involved in mapping out additional Episodes or Star Wars character spinoffs to follow Episode VII. That could make it easier for Abrams to step away from the film in the time between wrapping post-production and starting to promote Episode VII and still turn his attention to Star Trek 3
I can’t imagine Lucas Film or Disney letting Abrams take time away from Star Wars to focus on another Star Trek movie when Disney has, let say 4 billion reasons that would say other wise.
If what Quinto said is true and accurate then it will be interesting to see how everything plays out. For now I will have to put this in the possible rumor pile until further evidence says other wise.
