James Bond News

by Reggie's Take

After the world wide success of “Skyfall” in 2012 the 24th Bond movie is scheduled to begin filming beginning in October. Director Sam Mendes and screenwriter John Logan are returning to their same roles with even higher expectations.

John Logan recently talked with Empire magazine and the shape the 24th Bond film is taking and what we may or may not see.

“Right now the first draft is almost done. I’m terrifically excited about it! I’ve been working very closely with Sam Mendes, and it’s been joyous to pick up from our work on Skyfall and just continue on with the storytelling. The new movie continues the themes of Skyfall. Some of the characters and themes that we began to introduce in Skyfall will play out, I hope successfully, in the next movie.”

Daniel Craig who was involved in the creative process with “Skyfall” is once again getting a voice with Bond 24 and Logan made mention of that.

“Daniel’s very involved. It behoves no-one to write a character that the lead actor doesn’t want to play, so having worked so closely on Skyfall, I have my own sense of what I think Dan responds to, as does Sam and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson of course.”

With Skyfall being a huge hit Logan was asked if Bond 24 will be as big and Logan’s response was simply “You ain’t seen nothing yet!”

Bond 24 is currently scheduled to be released in the UK on October 23, 2015, and in the US on November 6, 2015.

Reggie’s Thought:

For me personally Daniel Craig’s Bond has to be close to that of the original Bond, Sean Connery. I’m not saying Craig’s version is better just that his comes the closest to Connery’s.

Craig brings an intensity to the role that I feel was lost with Rooger Moore and Pierce Brosnan. No I did not forget about Timothy Dalton, but in all honesty I never been a fan of the two movies Dalton portrayed 007. That’s not saying their weren’t some good qualities from those two movies, but I feel the writers didn’t take advantage of the qualities he brought to the role as an actor.

My hopes for the 24th bond movie are just as high any other fan of Bond. I’m looking forward in seeing how Bond gets along with Ralph Fiennes character “Gareth Mallory” aka the new “M”. When I first saw Judi Dench as “M” in “Golden Eye” I wasn’t to keen seeing her in that role, but over the years and Brosnan being changed out for Craig my opinion changed. The love hate between Craig’s Bond and Dench’s “M” was like a love hate, mother son relationship that worked and worked well. I can only hope Fiennes pro-trail of “M” comes close.

I also hope to see more of Ben Whishaw the new “Q” they brought in. I liked what they did with “Q”, bringing him more up to date with the times and not just the gadget guy. They still managed to have that bit of humor you expect to see between Q and Bond in Skyfall with out it being corny.

After seeing Skyfall and how much I really enjoyed the movie, Skyfall quickly became my favourite Bond film with Craig. I can’t wait for the next one to hit theatres in 2015.
