The first look at the rebooted Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was released on Thursday with a teaser trailer that seems to have a grittier and darker look and some humor.
The teaser trailer is narrated by Eric Sachs/The Shredder (William Fichtner). Who gives you an impression that he, along with April O’Neal’s father, created the Turtles with Ooze for the purpose of curbing unchecked criminals in New York City.
The film was produced by Michael Bay and was under some controversy when at one time the rebooted turtles would be aliens. That has since been changed and director Jonathan Liebesman said the film would honor the source material.
Andre Nemec a screenwriter for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles spoke out about what fans could expect from this new and different look at the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
“Tone was a very interesting question on this movie as far as how dark we really wanted to go. It’s really all in the conflict between the characters. That was the driving principle. The color palettes that were chosen were not designed to be ‘Dark Knight’-ish in that regard. We weren’t looking to make that movie. We certainly didn’t want kids to be running for the exits. ‘Mommy! Why did he do that?!’ We weren’t looking for that. We really wanted to entertain and have fun with it. I think we skate — we live — on a very fun line in this movie, whether it’s the action feeling real and exciting, but also fun and adventurous. It really never feels dark in a way that would startle you out of your chair or make you fearful.”
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opens in theaters on August 8th
The film stars: Megan Fox, Alan Ritchson, Pete Ploszek, Jeremy Howard, Noel Fisher, Danny Woodburn, and William Fichtner.
