Paramount Pictures Australia in an attempt to promote the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie release in that country makes a very poor decision with a new poster it Tweeted out in promotion of the movie.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is set hit theaters here in the U.S. on August 8th. In Australia the movie won’t be released until September 11th, you might be thinking not a big deal, right?
When Paramount Pictures Australia sent out a tweet of a new poster featuring our heroes on a half-shell a lot of fans believed the poster to be a hoax until it was realized it was no joke.
The new poster shows the Turtles jumping out of an exploding New York tower with the Australian release date at the bottom of September 11. The poster quickly set of a firestorm of out rage across social media. Paramount Australia removed from poster from its studio’s Facebook page and Twitter accounts a few short hours after it was initially posted.
The studio then released an statement which basically amounts to an apology, saying. “We are deeply sorry to have used that artwork for the marketing materials promoting the September 11 opening in Australia. Combining that image and date was a mistake. We intended no offense and have taken immediate action to discontinue its use.”
If you haven’t seen the poster, check it out below and see for yourself why Paramount Pictures Australia pulled it from further use.
Please note for sensitivity purposes I have blacked out the date of the poster.
