We’ve heard rumors that Warner Brothers and DC Comics were close to having the cast for the Suicide Squad movie in place and today it was made official.
Will Smith will be playing the Batman villian “Deadshot”, not “Captain Boomerang” as originally thought. Jai Courtney will instead play “Captain Boomerang”, the Australian actor seems to be the better choice for role, not that Smith wouldn’t of been a fine choice.
Tom Hardy has been cast in the role of “Rick Flagg”, Cara Delevingne as “Enchantress” and probably the best news for the Suicide Squad film is the official confirmation that Jared Leto has been confirmed to play “The Joker”. Leto will be the first actor to play the clown prince on the big screen since the late Heath Ledger gave a brilliant performance in Christopher Nolan’s ” The Dark Knight”in 2008.
Of course we can not forget that the beautiful Margot Robbie is set to play Harley Quinn a fan-favourite among the Batman fans. Robbie’s pro-trail of “Harley Quinn” will be the first time the character has appeared on the big screen.
Suicide Squad revolves around a team of supervillains who work for the U.S. Government, taking on dangerous missions in exchange for commuted prison sentences.
Warner Brothers executive Ben Silverman had this to say about the casting.
“The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one. David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote Training Day and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites: Margot, Jared, Jai and Cara. We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”
Production on Suicide Squad is scheduled to begin filming in Toronto this coming April with an anticipated release date of August 5, 2016.
