Warner Brothers and director David Ayer made an unexpected move on Monday and officially released the leaked Suicide Squad Comic-Con trailer.
After leaked low-res videos began showing up on the web over this past weekend, Warner Brothers said it would not be releasing any sort of trailer for its Suicide Squad movie any time soon, but on Monday they had a change of heart and did just that.
Warner Brothers did release this statement.
“Warner Bros. Pictures and our anti-piracy team have worked tirelessly over the last 48 hours to contain the Suicide Squad footage that was pirated from Hall H on Saturday. We have been unable to achieve that goal. Today we will release the same footage that has been illegally circulating on the web, in the form it was created and high quality with which it was intended to be enjoyed. We regret this decision as it was our intention to keep the footage as a unique experience for the Comic Con crowd, but we cannot continue to allow the film to be represented by the poor quality of the pirated footage stolen from our presentation.” – Sue Kroll of WB
Directed by: David Ayer
Suicide Squad Stars: Will Smith (Deadshot), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Jared Leto (the Joker), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Jessie Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), with Raymond Olubawale (King Shark), Jay Hernandez, Ike Barinholtz, Jim Parrack, Adam Beach, and Scott Eastwood.
Suicide Squad set to release on August 5, 2016.
Reggie’s Take:
From what I’m seeing from both the Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman movies, DC and Warner Brothers seem to have their act together better then first thought.
I was a bit reluctant after initially hearing of Warner Brothers plans for the DC universe, as I felt they were trying to rush things in an attempt to catch up with Disney/Marvel. I won’t go as far as to say their model for success will work just yet, but the signs are there.
