The latest rumor going around the Internet concerns Jared Leto’s Joker and if he’s the original Joker or a former associate to Bruce Wayne/Batman in DC’s new Cinematic Universe.
A new fan theory that’s somehow gained traction across the web is suggesting that Warner Brothers and DC’s latest incarnation of the Joker being played by Jared Leto might not actually be the original clown prince, but instead Jason Todd.
The theory is being based upon images from Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer and the publicity still released by David Ayer of Jared Leto’s shirtless Joker. This theory suggests that the puncture wounds on the Robin costume match up with puncture wounds on Leto’s Joker.
Some are saying this makes sense as to why this new Joker looks younger then what Ben Affleck’s batman does. Some sites are also saying it’s possible that the original Joker mentally broke Robin and at some point in time when the original Joker died that Jason Todd assumed the role as a new Joker carrying on the originals mantle.
This sort of story would not be new if it would turn out to be true. The animated show Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker gave us the story of former Robin Tim Drake having been brainwashed and manipulated into becoming the new Joker long after the original had died.
For me looking at the pictures (below) the rumor made sense and for a bit I thought it could be plausible, but as I looked a little harder at both images I began having some serious doubt.
First if you look at Leto’s Joker and going by where they say the Joker has puncture wounds on both is left and right shoulder area (circled in red) and compare that to the “Robin” costume image from the “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” trailer the so called wounds don’t match up.
From my point of view the supposed puncture wounds on the Joker’s shoulders are to far in compared to the wounds on the Robin costume. You can look for yourself and make your own judgment call, but for this movie buff I’m going to have to borrow a line from the MythBusters television program and say this rumor is “BUSTED”!
That being said Hollywood and the movie studios have fooled us all in the past and even if the rumor of the Joker really some how turns out to be Jason Todd (and it won’t) it would make for a very interesting and unique twist on the whole Batman/Joker relationship that’s never been seen before on the big screen.
My suggestion would be to put this rumor where it belongs the trash can. Sorry believers.
