Zack Snyder Talks DC Cinematic Universe

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is still about six months away and other then a little known upcoming space movie in December, Dawn of Justice has to be one of the most anticipated movies yet to be released.

In a recent interview done with Yahoo, Zack Snyder talked about Batman v Superman and the DC Cinematic Universe and how he’s approaching it all.

One of the questions asked of Zack Snyder was about the recent comments made by director Steven Spielberg and his opinion that the superhero movies would go the way of the western.

“He might not be wrong. I think it puts more pressure on us, the filmmakers, to not just crank out superhero movies for the sake of it. To me, the one thing I love working in the DC universe is that Superman and Batman and Wonder Woman are American mythology. It’s not about making a superhero, it’s a mythological universe that we live in…To me it’s about the drama, the humanity of it. Those are like Shakespearean characters, Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent, they have inherent drama built into their makeup.”

Of course with a movie having so much anticipation and hype and still almost six months away plenty of rumors get started and Snyder was asked about some of the more crazier ones he has actually heard himself.

“There are so many, it’s insanity. It’s funny because every now and then someone will touch on something that’s kind of true, but the next thing they say makes me realize that they took a wild guess. They’ll say something and I’ll say “Oh snap, they must have seen the script.” And then they’ll say, “And this happens!” And then I’ll go, They have no idea what they’re talking about. It’s fun for everyone to speculate and take shots and think of things and try to sell it. There’s a rumor that my son is [playing] Robin. It’s not true. Now there are all these images of him that people have made where he’s dressed like Robin. It’s fun to hear and see them.”

Besides Batman v Superman, WB and DC will be bringing Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Suicide Squad to the big screen, some characters making their theatrical debut for the first time. Snyder was asked how overseeing the DCCU was going.

“I’m staying with Batman V Superman and Justice League and Justice League 2 — those are my main responsibilities, as well as producing the other movies. That’s the main line. Once you get Justice League, you’re pretty deep in it. But like I was saying, not to be a selfless promoter of our program, what it shows is that we have this giant berth of opportunity with the DC movies now to I think find the opportunities for even young filmmakers to even get involved because there are so many projects.”

Reggie’s Take:
I know Batman v Superman has not come out yet and we really don’t much about the film other then what we have seen in the trailers, but the movie looks like it will be huge blockbuster if for no other reason then seeing Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman up on the screen together for the very first time.

I have thoroughly enjoyed what Marvel has done with its movies and I’m keeping a very open mind when it comes to the DC movies. It may seem as if WB and DC might be copying Marvel by putting Snyder as the overseer for the DC Universe, but like Kevin Feige at Marvel you almost need someone to help keep everything in order. The last thing WB needs is flaws and inconsistency.
