Six years after the last original Peanuts strip was released and the death of Charles M. Schulz, Craig Schulz had an idea for a new Peanuts movie.
When Craig and his son Bryan Schulz went to the studios and presented their Peanuts movie they stipulated they maintain control saying, “We need to have absolute quality control and keep it under Dad’s legacy… You can’t bring people in from the outside and expect them to understand Peanuts.”
Director Steve Martino and the animators spent an entire year looking at the original drawing style of Charles Schulz to help them turn Schulz’s hand-drawn look and warmth into something that would translate to CGI.
In keeping with traditional Peanuts style they were able to obtain the rights to use Bill Melendez’s voice for Snoopy and Woodstock as well as the rights to archive music from previous Peanuts specials.
If your a long time fan of the Peanuts you will still get to see classic locations like Charlie Brown’s skating pond, his house and Lucy’s psychiatrist booth all retaining their look from the strip. Lucy’s psychiatrist booth will still just cost a nickel and maybe best of all the adult characters voices will be a trombone with a plunger mute, like in previous Peanuts television shows and movies.
Probably my favorite is we get to see Snoopy take on his old rival, the Red Baron. Was one of my favorites when I was kid and look forward to seeing how they have updated it.
