With there being no chance of a Terminator: Genisys sequel happening anytime soon Arnold Schwarzenegger it seems is turning his focus to more of a “Barbarian” nature.
“The Legend of Conan” seems to be moving forward despite the project missing its original production start date in the spring of 2015.
Schwarzenegger at a recent event provided comments reassuring everyone that a third “Conan” movie will get made. While making his comments Schwarzenegger refereed to the film as “Conan the Conquerer”, the original title given to the movie in the 1980’s before it became bogged down with production troubles.
“Conan the Conqueror, where I’m sitting on the throne for years and years – decades, and then all of the sudden, the time comes when they want to overthrow me. So that story WILL be told and that movie WILL be done.” Said Schwarzenegger.
It’s not known if Schwarzenegger’s referral of the project as “Conan the Conqueror” was a slip of the tongue or if the project has been renamed back to what it was originally.
“Legend of Conan” as it stands now has a completed script. Schwarzenegger and writer/producer Chris Morgan have begun the process of looking for a director.
“Yes, Chris Morgan and I are meeting with directors at this moment. Interest is high, many are fans of Conan but we are not rushing. We have a great script and now we need the right director for the job.”
The Terminator: Genisys sequel that was to begin production at some point this year won’t be happening and there for has given Schwarzenegger the time to move forward on “Conan”.
Schwarzenegger made it clear there is “a serious drive” to make a third Conan movie, with a completed script and a serious search for a director now underway, all confirmed by producer Frederick Malmberg.
I realize that Arnold really won’t care about the thoughts of a small time website with a very small following, but a third “Conan” movie featuring Arnold could be a fun ride.
I’m all for seeing a third “Conan” movie featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger and if done right could be very successful, but at the same time it’s still a risk.
If a third movie is moving forward as it sounds my suggestion to Arnold would be the sixth Rocky movie, “Rocky Balboa”. It didn’t try to hard, took Rocky back to his roots in a certain sense and wasn’t over the top.
Schwarzenegger, although still in shape for his age, won’t look as good shirtless as he did thirty years ago. I’m hoping that whatever story they have come up with has taken Schwarzenegger’s age into consideration.
The Expendables movies have shown you can go back to the 1980’s style of action and do it yourself stunts and be successful in this day and age where computer driven affects dominate at the theater. This is where a third Arnold “Conan” movie has to be careful. Balancing the movie with the right amount of affects to tell your story, but not so much that at the same time you forget that they had to use such in order to complete the scene.
I like the idea of seeing Arnold returning to one of his earliest movie roles, but I hope it’s for the right reasons with the right idea and the right people behind it.
