Captain Jack Sparrow first came to the big screen in 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and in 2017 he returns in the fifth installment of the franchise.
Pirates of the Caribbean was originally envisioned as a trilogy and after the success of Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003 it led to Dead Man’s Chest (2006) and At World’s End (2007).
The success of the original three movies eventually prompted Disney to move forward with “On Stranger Tides” in 2011, but with Rob Marshall calling the shots behind the camera instead of Gore Verbinski. “On Stranger Tides” saw Johnny Depp return for the fourth movie, but did not see the return of Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightley.
With “Dead Men Tell No Tales” we get Javier Bardem as “Captain Salazar”, Geoffrey Rush as “Barbossa” and we’ll also see the return of Orlando Bloom as “Will Turner”.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales hits theaters on May 26th, 2017.
Cast: Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, Orlando Bloom as William Turner/Davy Jones, Javier Bardem as Captain Salazar, Geoffrey Rush as Captain Hector Barbossa, Kevin McNally as Joshamee Gibbs, Stephen Graham as Scrum, Martin Klebba as Marty, Brenton Thwaites as Henry, Kaya Scodelario as Carina Smyth
