Solo: A Star Wars Story – Official Synopsis

On Tuesday Disney released an official synopsis for the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story, but with the movie just over four months from hitting theaters when do we get the first trailer?

We are now in the third week of January and four weeks since the The Last Jedi hit theaters and only now are we getting any information on what we might expect to see with the Solo movie. The synopsis released by Disney on Tuesday is the first and only bit on information that fans have received on what we might see when the Solo movie hits theaters, but yet still no trailer.

Is it important for Disney and Lucasfilm to release a trailer for Solo sooner than later? In some ways yes and some ways no. If they are sticking to there May release date then they really need to have some kind of trailer out no later than Super Bowl weekend. If they plan to move Solo to a different release date other than May, which has been a rumor of possibility with all the re-shoots, then in all likely-hood it could be several more months before we get a trailer.

It’s my opinion that the bigger issue for the Solo movie is not when will a trailer be released or how good or bad the story might be, but how good or bad will Alden Ehrenreich be as Han Solo.

If you’ve been a Star Wars fan since 1977 or new to the franchise, when you hear the name Solo you most likely think of Harrison Ford, but as we all know Ford will not be playing Han in this movie. As much as some would love to see Ford play Solo one more time he’s to old to do so especially since Solo is an origin story for the character.

In order for Ehrenreich to be successful as Han Solo he has to hit on a few things. First he has to make us believe that he is Han Solo. Ehrenreich also has to make Han Solo his own and not just out right copy what Harrison Ford did, but at the same time the audience has to buy into Ehrenreich performance. Ehrenreich, fairly or unfairly will be judged on a standard set by the actor who previously played Han Solo and unfortunately that just happens to be Harrison Ford.

Solo: A Star Wars Story’ releases in U.S. theaters on May 25, 2018

Cast: Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Joonas Suotamo.
