Just a week and a half a ago no one was sure if the Dundee teaser was a legitimate movie or something else entirely and even though its come out as a promotional stunt part of me wishes it was real.
A day or so after the first teaser was released online a second teaser was released that featured Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth along side Danny McBride and the online movie world went into high buzz wanting to know if this was an actual movie.
Then an Australian newspaper the Brisbane Times revealed that “Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home” was simply a lavish commercial for Australia tourism. It should also be noted that Screen Australia, whose logo appears prominently in the marketing has not yet commented on any of this, yet.
Despite “Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home” most likely being a marketing strategy a full length trailer has been released that reveals the entire Australian cast. With some big names that include Danny McBride, Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth, Margot Robbie, Russell Crowe, Isla Fisher, Ruby Rose, Liam Hemsworth, Jessica Mauboy and Luke Bracey.
In some ways I’m glad this is all one big tourism campaign for Australia, but at the same time I almost wish it were real. For me personally I loved the first two “Crocodile Dundee” movies and was entertained by “Crocodile Dundee in Los Angles”.
The first Crocodile Dundee movie in 1986 was a fish out of water story by taking a man who had only lived in the Australian bush and had become a living legend of sorts and taking him to the big city, New York City to be exact. Once in New York, Dundee has to deal with issues and situations that seem normal to us, but not to the Crocodile hunter.
If I were to be honest I would love to see a new “Crocodile Dundee” movie come from all this as I believe with the right script and the right actor could put some new life into the franchise. I’m not sure I would want to see Danny McBride in the lead role, but the whole idea of reversing the fish out of water story could be fun especially if the pay off of the movie would be seeing Paul Hogan in the role he made famous.

Crocodile Dundee is back. Well, actually, he’s missing in the Outback. And the only person who might be able to find him is the loudmouthed American son no-one knew he had. Introducing Danny McBride as Brian Dundee. This son of a legend is forced to channel his Aussie roots as he embarks on the ultimate adventure in the land down under. It’s time to live up to the family name.
