Lucasfilm released a new trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story on Sunday as Alden Ehrenreich takes on a younger version of Han Solo, portrayed ironically by Harrison Ford.
Solo: A Star Wars Story will follow the adventures of a younger Han Solo from meeting Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian to finally seeing how Han was able to win the Millennum Falcon.
Unfortunately Solo has very publicly gone through some production issues the biggest of which was the firing of directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller with only about three weeks of filming left in production. Lucasfilm quickly brought in Ron Howard to take over as director, working from the screenplay written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan.
Although never officially confirmed by Lucasfilm, it was rumored that Lord and Miller were deviating to far from Kasdan script by turning it into a parody. Once Ron Howard was brought on board the movie spent the next three months re-shooting a good portion of the film.
In the first full-length trailer for Solo, Ehrenreich looks to have the essence of Han Solo without doing an outright copy of Harrison Ford’s Solo. Does Ehrenreich need to be perfect in the role of Solo in order for this movie to be good? No. He just needs to make the audience believe he is Solo. What will make or break this movie will be how good is the story they are trying to tell us. If we as the audience buy into plot of the movie and Ehrenreich as Solo is believable then the movie as a whole should do very well in theaters.
Cast: Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, Thandie Newton, and Paul Bettany
