Shane Black who had a supporting role in the original Predator movie is attempting to elevate a franchise as the first teaser trailer for The Predator was released by 20th Century Fox on Thursday.
The original Predator movie was directed by John McTiernan and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1987. Considered by many, including myself, as the best Predator movie, director Shane Black is taking his shot at reviving the franchise after previous attempts have not lived up to fan expectations.
This first teaser doesn’t give us much of a look at the actual plot of the movie, but does give us a glimpse at some of the action all be it limited. The movie centers around a kid, actor Jacob Tremblay, who discovers a piece of their technology and accidentally triggers their return to Earth and of course they bring plenty of violence, chaos and destruction with them.
As a fan of the first Predator (1987) movie and someone who actually enjoys Predator 2 (1990) and Predators (2010), I’m actually looking forward to seeing this movie and what Shane Black as a director can bring to the franchise.
When it comes to the two Alien vs Predator movies there’s really not much to say. A very popular idea brought to theaters after it saw some success in video games and a comic book. The idea of seeing these two alien killing titans go after each other in a movie could have worked, unfortunately the execution was not there.
The first Alien vs. Predator movie was passable in a very small extreme way, but when it came to Alien vs. Predator Requiem, it was just an utter abomination.
Am I expecting something totally awesome from Shane Black’s, The Predator? In some small way, maybe, but when it comes right down to it I just want a Predator movie that is worthy of the name and have me going wow when I walk out of the theater.
Cast: Jacob Tremblay, Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, Alfie Allen, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, Jake Busey, Yvonne Strahovski
Official Synopsis for The Predator:
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
