Sony has released the first trailer for Morbius, a biochemist who turns himself into a superhuman vampire.
Morbius stars Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius who while searching for a cure to a rare blood disease he suffers from accidentally turns himself into a superhuman vampire. Sony began filming on Morbius last February of 2019 after spending quite some time in development and until the teaser trailer dropped very few details have been released.
Created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, Morbius the Living Vampire, a.k.a. Dr. Michael Morbius first appeared in the October 1971 issue of The Amazing Spider-Man #101. Originally created to be one of Spider-Man’s horror-based villains, Morbius would go on to become a brooding, gritty, heroic and tragically flawed antihero in his own comic book series.
From the looks of this initial trailer it has a bit of a Venom feel, which is fine with me as I actually enjoyed Venom. If some of you were eagle eye and I’m sure you were you probably noticed the image of Spider-Man painted on a brick wall with the word “murderer” spray painted across it and then at the end of the trailer where we got an even bigger surprise when Michael Keaton pops up, presumably as Adrian Toomes his character from Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Is it possible that Sony is setting up future movies for when Tom Holland’s time in the MCU is finished? I wouldn’t be surprised, but for now lets not get a head of our selves. Morbius arrives in theaters on July 31, 2020
Cast: Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, Tyrese Gibson
