The actor best known for his role in the Fast & Furious franchise, has died at age 40 in a car collision in Southern California.
The red Porsche Carrera GT that Walker and his friend were in lost control and slammed into a tree before hitting a light pole. The identity of the second victim has not been released by authorities. Walker, had been participating in the “Winter Drive” for Reach Out Worldwide, a toy drive and car meet charity event for disadvantaged children.
Walker known more for the Fast & Furious series also had other roles in films such as Joy Ride, Pleasantville, Varsity Blues, Running Scared and Flags of Our Fathers.
Universal Pictures released a statement upon hearing of the tragedy.
“All of us at Universal are heartbroken. Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the FAST AND FURIOUS films, and to countless fans. We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul’s family.”
Vin Diesel posted an image of him and Walker on Instagram with the caption:
Paul Walker’s next film, “Hours,” about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, is currently scheduled to open on December 13th.
Walker is survived by his 15-year-old daughter, Meadow.
