The Joker In the Suicide Squad?

Actor Jared Leto who at one time was reportedly being considered for Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange is now being sought for a possible major role in Warner Brothers Suicide Squad Movie.

David Ayer who will be directing the “Suicide Squad” movie is now rewriting the script to include Batman’s arch-enemy the Joker. According to the same report the Joker was not a part of the original script.

The late Heath Ledger was the last actor to portray the clown prince of darkness in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” in which Ledger won an Academy Award for his performance.

Ryan Gosling was supposedly up for the role initially, but according to reports was not willing to sign a multi movie deal that would continue after the “Suicide Squad”.

Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Margot Robbie are still in different stages of negotiations as the main leads of the movie, this according the website, The Wrap.

Of course none of this has been confirmed to my knowledge so take from it as you wish.

Reggie’s Take:
I’m really not sure how to feel about this report if true and my concern has nothing to do with the actor being considered. My concern is should Warner Brothers really be rolling out the character of the Joker before we ever get a solo Batman movie from Ben Affleck?

Heath Ledger set the bar extremely high when comes to playing the role of the Joker, after all he did win a Academy Award. My whole point is why introduce an iconic comic book villain such as the Joker and have it not be in a Batman movie.

My only reasoning why Warner Brothers would want to try such a move is to draw in fan interest to the movie itself and possibly set the stage for seeing the Joker in a solo Batman movie with Affleck. Even if the second part of my speculation is true, why take the risk of drawing fan criticism if the “Joker” in the “Suicide Squad” movie turns out to be a bad portrayal or worse horribly written.

You run the risk of potentially ruining your overall plans to revive the “Batman” franchise before it ever has a chance to stand up on its own two legs and separate itself from the Nolan incarnation.
