Months of rumors and speculation can now be put behind us after Damon himself has finally set the record straight on if he’s returning to the Bourne franchise.
While doing an interview with E! Online about Project Greenlight with his friend Ben Affleck, Matt Damon confirmed that he will indeed be returning to the character of Jason Bourne.
At one point during the interview Affleck said. “Well, Damon’s going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I’ve just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness. So….,”
Mr. Damon himself was then asked to clarify Affleck’s comment saying. “Yes, [we shoot] next year. It’ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that’s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.”
Damon has always maintained that he would not return to the Bourne franchise with out director Paul Greengrass behind the cameras and that it seems all it took to ensure his return.
Universal has an untitled Bourne movie set for release on July 15, 2016. That was thought to be a follow up film to Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross character. It’s not known at this time if Renner’s character of “Cross” will be put on the shelf with Damon returning or if Renner would be used in some way with Damon, seeing both characters working together. Only Universal and time will answer that question.
