He’s back! The rules have been reset in hopes that Terminator: Genisys will relaunch this beloved sci-fi franchise as John Connor sends Kyle Reese back to 1984.
Paramount hopes that Terminator: Genisys will be the first in a planned three movie set. We actually get to see the side of the original Terminator movie we’ve never really seen before, seeing John Connor sending Kyle Reese back in time to save Sarah Connor.
It’s 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California. As in the original film, Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother, Sarah (Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won’t ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on the other side is nothing like he expected.
Terminator: Genisys will either re-invigorate its fan base or send them away even more disappointed than ever before. Just by watching the trailer we see that Sarah Connor already has a Terminator, an older Arnold Schwarzenegger, as a protector.
We have new actors as familiar characters while revisiting familiar places from James Cameron’s first movie, with a new aesthetic being established and a villain from the second film, the T-1000 thrown in for good measure. Ingredients for success or failure?
Terminator: Genisys scheduled to hit theaters on July 1, 2015
