Zack Snyder Talks Batman v Superman with Empire Magazine
Empire Magazine has been busy as of late releasing new images for Warner Brothers/DC movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that just happens to be there latest cover story.
Director Zack Snyder tells the people over at Empire Magazine that Affleck’s Batman in the movie is “45 or 46” saying that Batman has been around a good 20 years when we first meet him in Dawn of Justice.
This particular version of Batman is an older more broken, screwed up Batman and that’s what convinced Ben Affleck to take on this newer version of the character. Snyder tells the magazine that the arrival of Superman messes with Batman’s whole philosophy.
Snyder says…“We want to assume that Batman has reached this point in his life and career as a superhero, and Superman represents a sort of philosophical change. He is a paradigm shift for Batman: ‘I’ve been fighting criminals all my life, trying to find justice, and now I am confronted with a concept that is transcendent to me.’ In the face of Superman, a man robbing a bank doesn’t matter.”
Snyder has also confirmed to the magazine that all of the criminals in “Belle Reve” that will be seen in “Suicide Squad” in August of 2016 were captured and put there by Batman himself. Snyder also said that Batman could be viewed as the antagonist in Batman v Superman depending on your point of view, but said “That is why Dawn of Justice is the full title. What it does is allow us to start this conversation.”
Snyder would later go on and say that this whole idea of the shared DC universe all started with the Justice League idea.
“What we are doing is ground up all the way. It is one giant story. The first thing we had was the Justice League concept. The other movies, in a way, have to support that. That is our Wonder Woman, our Aquaman. They have their own creative concepts that supports them, but they do serve Justice League in the coming together of those heroes. I want all the other directors of the other films to be able to stretch their legs and do what they want, but at the same time there is a big interconnected universe. I have given everyone amazing access to our story, to me, and what we are doing. All the films have like minded conceptual jumping on points.”
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will make it’s way to the theater on March 25, 2016. Empire Magazine featuring Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits news stands today.
