The third film in the rebooted Star Trek series for Paramount recently wrapped up shooing in Vancouver and has now moved on to the Arab Emirates.
Shooting on Star Trek Beyond began its final leg of filming in Dubai as the authorities there shut down the busy Sheikh Zayed road on Friday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Shooting involved a helicopter that was filming along side the road that’s lined with tall buildings and the Dubai Metro.
Dubai’s Burj Khalifa skyscraper was used in 2011’s “Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol and J.J. Abrams who directed the first two rebooted Star Trek films used parts of Abu Dhabi to shoot some of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
Director Justin Lin arrived in Dubai a few days earlier along with cast members Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Idris Elba, Karl Urban, and Anton Yelchin. There have been was no sign of John Cho or female leads Sofia Boutella and Zoe Saldana to this point.
Star Trek: Beyond will spend its thirteen-day’s filming at both Dubai Studio City’s soundstages and at several indoor and outdoor locations around the city before concluding the week of October 11.
