In April, Paramount announced the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation would reunite for season three of Star Trek: Picard. This weekend at San Diego Comic-Con we got our first official look at the TNG crew together once again.
At San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, Paramount put Star Trek TNG front and center with a panel that featured Patrick Stewart, Gates McFadden, and producers Alex Kurtzman and Rod Roddenberry, bringing with them the first official teaser trailer for season three of Picard.
Over the course of the first two seasons of Picard fans have been treated to guest appearances of Jonathan Frakes (Will Riker), Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Data), Whoopi Goldberg (Guinan) and John de Lancie (Q). When season three of Picard is released in early 2023 on Paramount Plus it will mark the first time since 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis that Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Brent Spiner, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis and Michael Dorn have been on screen together. Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager) and Michelle Hurd as Raffi Musiker are the only returning cast members from seasons 1 & 2 that will also appear in season three.
When it was announced that the TNG cast would be reuniting it was also announced that Alison Pill, Santiago Cabrera, Isa Briones, and Evan Evagora who were regular cast members for the first two seasons of Picard would not be returning for season three.
It is also worth noting in the trailer and the character posters released that we do not see Brent Spiner. As you remember they officially killed Data in the season one finally of Picard and in season two Spiner played yet another relative of Dr. Soong. It is my guess they will not reveal who Spiner might be playing until the series returns to Paramount Plus, its possible Paramount might give fans a hint when they release a full trailer at a future date.
In my opinion Spiner is either playing the Soong character of “Altan Inigo Soong” he portrayed at the end of season one of Picard or he will be playing B4. In my mind those are the only two logical characters for Spiner could return as, or maybe he is playing both? We will obviously have to wait and see.
PICARD: “You’re only as good as those around you.”
LA FORGE: “Those days on the Enterprise… made me a better man, a better father, a better friend.”
SEVEN: “I thought I could inspire people… bring justice to an unjust universe.”
RAFFI: “You have no idea how hard it is to be in this world.”
WORF: “Do not presume to know what I have and have not sacrificed for this.”
TROI: “You have to be willing to go through that door to what’s next.”
RIKER: “There’s a whole universe out there — wherever you go, we go.”
CRUSHER: “Here, in this moment, let’s do what we spent our lives learning to be great at!”
PICARD: “As long as you and your crew remain steadfast, you are never without hope.”
