Disney/Pixar’s latest short will debut next month in theaters in front of the movie The Good Dinosaur.
From the mind of graphic novelist Sanjay Patel comes the story of a young Indian-American boy and his father. Originally premiering at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France earlier this year, Sanjay’s Super Team tells the story of young Sanjay.
While Sanjay is watching cartoons and eating cereal like any normal boy until his father rings a bell and calls him over to join him in meditation.
During meditation Sanjay quickly begins to daydream about a kind of ancient, Hindu Gods appearing as superheroes. The longer his daydream goes the more Sanjay begins to understand the importance of meditation to his father.
In “Sanjay’s Super Team,” accomplished artist Sanjay Patel uses his own experience to tell the story of a young, first-generation Indian-American boy whose love for western pop culture comes into conflict with his father’s traditions. Sanjay is absorbed in the world of cartoons and comics, while his father tries to draw him into the traditions of his Hindu practice. Tedium and reluctance quickly turn into an awe-inspiring adventure as the boy embarks on a journey he never imagined, returning with a new perspective that they can both embrace.
