Paramount has been releasing character posters for the thirteenth film in the Star Trek franchise and the third installment in the rebooted series.
One of the new additions to the cast for Star Trek Beyond is Idris Elba, who’ll play a villain by the name of Krall. Director Justin Lin has been enthusiastic about Elba’s involvement, saying, “Because his character is really challenging the way of The Federation’s philosophy and there’s just a lot of things that I think when I was growing up I wanted to see”.
Since “Into Darkness” was in theaters Leonard Nimoy has since passed away. This will be the first of the rebooted Star Trek films that will not feature a cameo from the legendary actor. Some thought that William Shatner might appear in stead, but unfortunately that never came close to being reality.
Its still unknown if anyone from the original cast will actually make an appearance in Star Trek Beyond. “Beyond” is intended as a 50th anniversary installment in the franchise, so don’t be surprised to find plenty of winks and nods to the Star Trek franchise as a whole and not necessarily limited to the original show.
Star Trek Beyond is set to warp into theaters in the U.S. July 22, 2016
