Universal on Sunday night released the first official trailer for the eighth movie in the Fast & Furious franchise, Fate of the Furious.
When the first movie was released over fifteen years ago in 2001, who would of guessed it would become the biggest franchise in Universal’s history and one of the most popular worldwide.
After the emotional goodbye to the late Paul Walker character in Furious 7, Fast 8 or “Fate of the Furious” hopes to continue the success. Cars parachuting out of a plane, leaping between high rises in Abu Dhabi may not be happening again in this newest installment, but from the looks of the trailer there are still plenty of stunts, a submarine and prison riots to keep your inner adrenaline junkie happy.
With Fate of the Furious they seem to be taking a risk with Dom being seduced into turning against his friends from the new antagonist being played by Charlize Theron (a favorite actress of mine, I will admit).
I will be honest I’m not the biggest fan of the Fast & Furious franchise. I’ve seen the majority of films and while they are definitely not lacking for action there has always been something about them that hasn’t captured my complete fandom.
Will I go see Fate of the Furious? Probably not at theaters, but I will check it out once its available on home video. If you’re a fan of the franchise then I’m fairly certain from the looks of this first trailer you will enjoy the ride that Universal will be shifting into theaters come April.
Fate of the Furious will hit theaters on April 14, 2017
Cast: Vin Diesel, Jason Statham, Charlize Theron, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky, Kurt Russell, Scott Eastwood, Helen Mirren
