20th Century Fox has released the second and final trailer for Logan which promises to be a grittier, more adult and more character-driven X-Men movie we have ever seen.
Hugh Jackman returns for the final time as Logan aka Wolverine in the movie “Logan”, unless Jackman agrees to make an appearance in a future Deadpool movie. This latest trailer gives us plenty of action from X-23 and a look into what the movie is trying to focus on, family.
Though it’s not what you would consider a typical family we do see in the trailer Logan and his relationship with Charles and Laura. We also get a fourth wall moment as we see Logan looking through an X-Men comic book which is to remind Logan of an idealized version of what he was back in the day, but will never be able to live up to.
Besides being what could be one if not the best comic book movie of 2017 we have learned that “Logan” will take place in the year 2029. Director James Mangold explained in a recent interview why that particular year was chosen so it wouldn’t cause conflict with any of the other movies in the franchise.
Director James Mangold told ComicBook.com “It’s year 2029 when the movie takes place,”
“There’s an epilogue scene in Days of Future Past which is 2024, or 2023, something like that,” Mangold said. “I just wanted to get far enough past. My goal was real simple: it was to pick a time where I had enough elbow room that I was clear of existing entanglements. Part of the way I think this films stop being fresh (these films being franchise comic book movies) is when you find yourself making essentially a television series with $200 million episodes where you’re literally just picking up where the last one left off and you’re making a mini-series. Then, it’s impossible to do something fresh, meaning essentially you’re just a director on the 14th episode of a television show picking up where the last one left off and people are going to be really startled by any discontinuity or changes.”
