On Saturday a teaser trailer for a brand new Spider-Man movie was released that does not involve Peter Parker.
The new animated Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse teaser trailer debuted on Saturday during the Brazil Comic-Con or CCXP in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Into the Spider-Verse will introduce movie audiences to Miles Morales as Spider-Man. Miles Morales first appeared in Ultimate Fallout #4 (August 2011) after the death of Peter Parker. Morales receives his powers from the bite of a spider that was genetically engineered by Norman Osborn who was attempting to recreate the same abilities.
The trailer itself looks visually stylized and vibrant. As for the plot of the movie there was nothing to tell us what’s going to happen or who the villain might be. The purpose for the teaser being released was to introduce us to the character of Miles Morales in costume as Spider-Man.
The term “Spider-Verse” actually comes from another comic book story line done in 2014. The story featured every Marvel Spider-character to have ever appeared that included Silk, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Girl, and Ultimate Spider-Man aka. Miles Morales. Does this mean we will see more than one Spider-Man type character in this movie? I don’t know since obviously I have not seen the movie, but it would not surprise me if this movie is successful and loved by the audience and critics alike that Sony explores that idea further in future movies.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse won’t hit theaters until December of 2018.
Voice Cast: Shameik Moore, Mahershala Ali, Brian Tyree Henry, Liev Schreiber
