Universal released the first full trailer to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom on Thursday night in what looks to be a darker sequel.
When Jurassic World came to theaters in 2015 the movie worked as a sequel and soft-reboot for the franchise all rolled into one movie and scored big bringing in $1.6 billion worldwide. Fallen Kingdom the follow up is set four years after the events of Jurassic World where we see Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard’s characters returning to Isla Nublar hoping to evacuate some of the dinosaurs before the island is destroyed by a devastating volcanic eruption.
J.A. Bayona who directed “A Monster Calls” and “The Impossible” takes charge behind the camera. Colin Trevorrow who directed Jurassic World co-wrote “Fallen Kingdom” with Derek Connolly and served as executive producer.
My first reaction after watching the trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was WOW. I’ll be honest I was extremely impressed with what I saw. Does it mean the movie itself will be good or bad? Won’t actually know that until it hits theaters.
I will go out on a limb and say that the destruction of the island we saw near the end of the trailer will happen by the midway point of the movie. The part of the synopsis where it says, “their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times” will be the main underlying plot of the movie and I believe what the majority of the third act will deal with.
The Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom trailer looks genuinely suspenseful and frightening, plus it looks as if they have put both our human characters and the dinosaurs in an equal amount of peril, with both just trying to survive.
The trailer also shows us the return of “Ian Malcom”, played my Jeff Goldblum. Goldblum himself has said his role in the upcoming movie is small, but I wouldn’t be surprised if his character has a pivotal role in the overall plot of the story.
Cast: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, James Cromwell, Ted Levine, Justice Smith, Geraldine Chaplin, Daniella Pineda, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, BD Wong, Jeff Goldblum.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opens in theaters on June 22, 2018.
