The first full-length trailer for Marvel Studios highly anticipated Captain Marvel was reveled Tuesday during ABC’s Good Morning America.
Brie Larson stars as Carol Danvers, a former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot who becomes one of the galaxy’s strongest heroes and gets caught up in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.
Even though Captain Marvel will be the 21st movie released in the MCU the movie will serve for all intense purposes as a prequel that will see Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg returning for Captain Marvel as members of S.H.I.E.L.D. Both Jackson and Clark will be getting the digital de-aging treatment since Captain Marvel’s storyline is set sometime in the 1990’s. Captain Marvel will also see the return of Ronan and Korath from Guardians of the Galaxy.
After watching the trailer I’m glad this movie won’t be a true origin story, but looks as if we’ll learn about Carol Danvers origins in flashbacks when her memories come back to her after she crashes back to Earth.
Created by Stan Lee and Gene Colan in Marvel Super-Heroes #12 (December 1967) Marvel Comics gained the trademark rights to “Captain Marvel”. Created as an alien military officer, Captain Mar-Vell of the Kree Imperial Militia was sent to observe Earth’s developing technology to travel into space.
After developing inoperable cancer, the result of an earlier exposure to toxic nerve gas Captain Mar-Vell died from the cancer on Titan in the presence of the Marvel superhero community. The Death of Captain Marvel, published in 1982 was Marvel’s first large-format graphic novel.
After 1982 five more Marvel characters would become or embody the character of “Captain Marvel”. Carol Danvers originally known as Ms. Marvel assumed the mantle of Captain Marvel in July of 2012 becoming the seventh Marvel Comic book character to do so.
Captain Marvel is set to release in theaters on March 8, 2019
