Entertainment One UK has released the first trailer for Stan & Ollie that follows the legendary comedy duo of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.
Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly star as Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy as they begin a variety hall tour of Britain and Ireland that will test their friendship when old grievances surface long after their golden era has passed.
This is the first real movie about the comedy duo of Laurel & Hardy and their relationship behind the scenes. Directed by Jon S. Baird from a screenplay written by Jeff Pope, Stand and Ollie is a dramatization of Laurel & Hardy’s lives.
I’ve seen some of Laurel & Hardy’s movies on television and even though I enjoyed them I’ve always been a bigger fan of Abbott and Costello. When I saw there was a trailer for Stan & Ollie the first thing that caught my eye was that of John C. Reilly.
If I’m honest I’ve never been a huge fan of Reilly. I’m sure he’s a talented actor, but the roles he’s played over the years have never been, at least for me anything to write home about. I’m sure some of you who will read that and gasp for air and wonder what the hell is my problem. That doesn’t mean I haven’t liked him in some movies, I have, I’m just not a huge fan.
After watching the trailer for Stan & Ollie I was very impressed with what I saw from Reilly. This looks like a movie that will not only play to Reilly’s comedic strengths, but also allow him to show something of a serious side to his acting and because of that I’m actually very interested in seeing this movie.
You can check out the trailer for Stan & Ollie below. The movie will open in the U.K. January 11th. No date has been announced yet for a U.S. release, but Sony Pictures Classics will distribute the movie.
