On Monday Disney released a new trailer for the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns a follow-up to the 1964 classic.
When Mary Poppins Returns opens in theaters on Christmas Day, it will see Emily Blunt stepping into the role of Marry Poppins famously portrayed by Julie Andrews in the 1964 classic that also featured Dick Van Dyke and David Tomlinson.
Marry Poppins comes back into the life of the Banks family after having suffered a loss. Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer play Michael and Jane who are now all grown up with kids of their own.
If you have seen the original Marry Poppins movie then you have to acknowledge how the new trailer is very much in the spirit of the original movie. Bringing back the same look and feel of the 2D animation from the original with all new singing and dancing. Everything a fan of the original Marry Poppins would want to see.
The highlight, at least for me, in this latest trailer is the return of Dick Van Dyke. Dick Van Dyke of course co-starred as Bert the chimneysweeper in the 1964 movie. I will admit I’ve never been a huge fan of Hollywood’s song and dance era style of movies, but the 1964 Marry Poppins is one of my favorite movies. It may not crack my top ten, but would have a place in my top 20 of all time for sure.
Cast: Emily Blunt, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury, Julie Walters, David Warner, and Dick Van Dyke
