The first trailer for the rebooted Hellboy movie has finally arrived as Big Red looks to protect the world from the forces of darkness.
Guillermo del Toro who directed two previous Hellboy movies starring Ron Perlman wanted to direct a third movie, but the studio bosses felt Guillermo’s vision was too costly and opted to reboot the franchise instead.
Neil Marshall as director wanted to adhere closer to Hellboy’s source material and give it more of a paranormal horror feel along with some humor that’s very prevalent when you watch the trailer.
Between Neil Marshall’s direction and the look of David Harbour’s Hellboy it’s obvious this movie will employ a different look and feel than what we got with del Toro and when rebooting its usually for the best.
Hellboy also stars Ian McShane as Hellboy’s human mentor/father Professor Bruttenholm and Milla Jovovich as the antagonist Nimue, aka. The Blood Queen a sorceress who seeks to destroy mankind.
I’ve watched Guillermo del Toro’s two Hellboy movies and even though I had a nice time with them both I actually liked the first movie better. That being said I’ve never been big on Hellboy as a character and after watching this first trailer with David Harbour I’m willing to give this one a shot as well.
For those hoping for a Guillermo del Toro feel with this reboot you may find disappointment. The first two movies never tore up the box office with Hellboy earning $99.3 million worldwide and Hellboy II making a little more earning $160.4 million. Knowing that Hellboy fans should consider themselves lucky the studio is taking a chance on a third one, even if it is a reboot.
Hellboy opens in theaters on April 12, 2019.
