Paramount released the second trailer for Rocketman the biopic of sorts about rock-n-roll legend Elton John.
Staring Taron Egerton as music icon Elton John and directed by Dexter Fletcher the first full trailer gives us a look at what rising to fame and grappling with the pitfalls that superstardom brings with it.
Egerton told the folks over at Collider last May that “Rocketman” is not an actual biopic “Everyone thinks it’s a biopic. It isn’t. It’s a fantasy musical; it’s actually his songs used to express important beats in his life at emotional moments. He’s not the only character that sings.”
As interesting as those comments are by Egerton the newest trailer reminded me more of what I saw in Bohemian Rhapsody. That’s not knocking Rocketman, but what I watched in this first full trailer compared to Egerton’s remarks didn’t really seem to line-up.
I also found it interesting that Egerton did his own singing for the movie. In the trailer he sounds pretty good, but how will it sound in the theater? It seems like a huge risk to take. If the music sounds a bit off it could hurt the movie, if Egerton actually captured the sound and essence of Elton John it won’t even be talked about.
That bit of nit picking aside I’m still one hundred percent on board to see Rocketman in theaters. “Rocketman” hits theaters on May 31, 2019.
Cast: Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Bryce Dallas Howard
