Disney and Pixar released a new, official trailer for Toy Story 4 that offers up our first complete look at the plot of the highly anticipated sequel.
In 2010 at the conclusion of Toy Story 3 we saw Andy giving his toys away to Bonnie, bringing the franchise to a close or so we thought. Fast-forward nine years to 2019 and we find Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang embarking on an all-new adventure.
Toy Story 4 introduces the audience to a new character Forky—a spork who’s been turned into a toy and is now questioning his existence. When Forky escapes from a motor home that Bonnie and her family are traveling in Woody makes the tough decision to after him. Woody comes across an antiques store where he finds Bo Peep who’s been living with other lost toys.
John Lasseter who was originally scheduled to direct stepped away after allegations, Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, who wrote a screenplay based on an original idea from Andrew Stanton walked away over philosophical differences. All of the departures forced Pixar to move the films release from 2017 to 2018 and then again to its current release in 2019.
The first three Toy Story movies are without a doubt one of the top five trilogies of all time and a franchise that has plenty of humor and heart with lovable characters like Woody, Buzz.
I’m sure Pixar and Disney wouldn’t of made or even considered making a fourth Toy Story if they didn’t have one hell of a good story to tell. With that said I’m a little torn on how I feel. Toy Story 3 ended so beautifully and so perfect that in some ways I wish Pixar had left well enough alone.
I still plan on seeing Toy Story 4 in theaters and I hope it’s at least on par with Toy Story 3, but if I’m totally honest I want to see the franchise come to a close. Even if that means they make everyone cry their eyes out.
