Lionsgate has released the first trailer for Angel Has Fallen that sees the return of Gerard Butler as Secret Service Agent Mike Banning.
After an attempt on the life of President Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman), Banning is charged and arrested for the crime. He soon escapes in order to clear his name and protect the President from another attempt.
Angel Has Fallen in the follow up to 2013’s Olympus Has Fallen and 2016’s London Has Fallen. The trilogy follows Mike Banning a Secret Service Agent who in Olympus Has Fallen was able to save President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) after the vehicle the first family was riding in spins out of control on a bridge because of icy conditions. Banning is unable to save the first Lady as she falls to her death when the vehicle plummets from the bridge. Banning who was removed from Presidential detail after the accident redeems him self when he rescues President Asher from a North Korean terrorist attack who take over the White House.
In London Has Fallen, world leaders gather to pay their respects to the British Prime Minister who died while in office. Terrorists unleash a devastating attack on London that leaves the city in chaos. When President Benjamin Asher (Aaron Eckhart) is captured by the terrorist organization, it’s up to Banning to save his commander in chief.
I’m not going to apologize for my opinion, but I thoroughly enjoyed Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen and I’m looking for to seeing Angel Has Fallen.
Are either the greatest action movies of all time? Of course not, that title still belongs to Die Hard, which is not a Christmas movie by the way.
I found the first two Fallen movies as solid, enjoyable, summer popcorn action movies that allowed me to escape for a couple of hours and forget what’s going on in the world. Gerard Butler won’t win any awards or an Oscar for his role as Mike Banning, but he doesn’t need to. Butler as Banning reminds me a little of John McClane mixed with some Stallone thrown in for good measure.
If you weren’t a fan of the first two movies then most likely you won’t be seeing Angel Has Fallen and that’s fine, movies are subjective. If you did like them, as I did, then you can’t wait to see it. For me personally, any movie that has Morgan Freeman as President has got my vote, so to speak.
Angel Has Fallen opens in theaters on August 23rd.
Cast: Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Jada Pinkett Smith, Lance Reddick, Tim Blake Nelson, Piper Perabo, with Nick Nolte, Danny Huston
