CBS All Access released the first full-length trailer for their upcoming series Star Trek: Picard at San Diego Comic Con’s Enter the Star Trek Universe panel.
For the first time since 2002’s Nemesis, Patrick Stewart is returning to the 24th century and the role of Jean-Luc Picard. Star Trek: Picard catches up with the retired Starfleet admiral who becomes drawn back into space after an encounter with an unknown female visitor.
Patrick Stewart will be joined by a group of newcomers that inclued Isa Briones as Dahj, the young woman who seeks out Picard for answers. Evan Evagora as Elnor, a young Romulan who is an “expert and hand to hand combat” and is “fiercely loyal to Jean-Luc Picard”, Alison Pill as Dr. Agnes Jurati a researcher, Santiago Cabrera as Cristobal “Chris” Rios, a former Starfleet officer and pilot, Michelle Hurd as Raffi Musiker, a character who knows Picard from some time in the past and Harry Treadaway as Narek.
It was revealed during the Comic-Con panel that some familiar faces would also be making appearances. Brent Spiner, better known as Lt. Commander Data and Jeri Ryan, aka “Seven of Nine” from Star Trek: Voyager will be the first two be making an appearance on the latest Star Trek series.
Jonathan Del Arco, who portrayed Hugh on the Next Generation episodes “I, Borg” and the two-part “Descent” will be reprising his role. Picard series showrunner Michael Chabon revealed that Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis would both return as Riker and Troi at some point later in the season. I can only hope that Riker will still be captain of the USS Titan the ship Riker left for at the end of Nemesis.
Reggie’s Take:
Even though this show is all about Picard, I’m extremely excited knowing that some familiar faces from The Next Generation as well as Voyager will be making appearances as the series moves through it’s first season.
My mouth was open and on the floor at least twice while watching the trailer. The first one of course when we see Jeri Ryan as “Seven of Nine” and Brent Spiner as Data. I have to admit that I almost screamed like a schoolgirl when they showed Spiner in the Data makeup. I’m guessing we’re seeing the B-4 unit from Star Trek: Nemesis and the Data memories have been unlocked restoring Data as it were, but I’m sure an explanation will come once Picard begins airing.
I’m almost willing to bet that Patrick Stewart would not of returned to Star Trek in particular another television series unless it was going to be of quality and after watching the trailer I can not wait for Star Trek: Picard to, Engage!
