Warner Brothers has released over twenty new images from Joaquin Phoenix’s upcoming Joker movie giving us a closer look at the world of Arthur Fleck.
Joker, directed by Todd Phillips is not connected to any known origin stories, but could be looked at as a movie one-shot. In the comic book publishing world, a one-shot is a comic book published as a single or standalone issue that features a self-contained story not part of an ongoing series. This version of the Joker, that does not feature a man dressed like a bat, will show how a downtrodden citizen of Gotham becomes one of its most dangerous criminals.
The new images below shed more light on what happens to Arthur Fleck when his limits are pushed and he allows the darkness inside him to come to the surface. The images released by Warner Brothers are obviously meant to be a little unsettling, but that shouldn’t be to surprising when you’ve made a movie about a man who feels he has no place left to turn.
Joker hits in theaters on October 4th.

Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.
