Warner Brothers has released the first official trailer for Wonder Woman 1984, the sequel to DC’s 2017 Wonder Woman movie starring Gal Gadot and yes the return of Chris Pine.
The first trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 premiered at CCXP 2019 today (Sunday) while director Patty Jenkins and Gale Gadot were promoting the upcoming sequel for Warner Brothers. It’s obvious that Warner Brothers wasn’t afraid to put plenty of action in the first trailer that had plenty of big stunts, big set pieces, big shoulder pads and lets not forget plenty hair.
If you’ve watched the first Wonder Woman movie then you’re aware (spoiler) that Steve Trevor played by Chris Pine died in that movie and yet Chris Pine is back for Wonder Woman 84. Patty Jenkins while on stage at CCXP was tight-lipped as to exactly how Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor returns, but did reveal the idea came about while shooting the first movie and that it had more to do with plot then the idea of just having Chris Pine return.
So why was the Wonder Woman sequel set in the 1980″s instead of the 1970’s or even current modern day? Director Patty Jenkins while answering a fan question during the Wonder Woman 1984 live-stream panel at CCXP 2019 explained why the 1980s felt like the perfect re-entry point back into Diana’s story.
“Why 1984? We wanted to bring Diana into the modern world. But the ’80s is a period that Wonder Woman is quite synonymous with. So it was great to see her there. But most importantly, it’s sort of the height of Western civilization and the success of the world that we all live in in the aftermath of now. So, I was curious to collide our Wonder Woman into the height of our current modern belief system and what kind of villains come out of that and see what happens. So, it all came quite naturally.”
“Wonder Woman 1984.” Is set to open in theaters on June 5, 2019
