20th Century Fox…sorry, 20th Century Studios released a new trailer on Sunday for The King’s Man an origin story for the Kingsman.
The King’s Man, is an origin story or for better lack of terms a prequel movie to 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service and 2017’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
Originally scheduled to hit theaters in November of 2019, but was pushed to February of 2020 after Disney officially took control of 20th Century Fox and then the release date was pushed back further last fall. Now The King’s Man is set to hit theaters on September 18, 2020.
It would seem Disney is committed to releasing The King’s Man to theaters and not to streaming or PVOD. Matthew Vaughn has said previously that he has hopes of wrapping up the franchise with another Kingsman sequel starring Taron Egerton, but now that Disney is in control of what used to be 20th Century Fox franchises fans will have to wait and see what happens.
Reggie’s Take:
With COVID-19 still very much a thing here in the States and else where in the world it will be interesting to see how Disney judges The King’s Man success while in theaters. I know for myself I’m not ready or comfortable stepping back into a movie theater and I’m sure I’m not alone in that thought.
So how will Disney judge The King’s Man success? On it’s box office results or how well critics and fans like it? I can’t see the movie, even if it’s awesome earning what it potentially could of earned in normal times. So if Matthew Vaughn is wanting one more shot with Taron Egerton it will be interesting to see if he gets it and what kind of success the movie has to show in order for Vaughn to get that chance.
Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Harris Dickinson, Rhys Ifans, Tom Hollander, Daniel Bruhl, Gemma Arterton, Matthew Goode, Charles Dance.
